What this is
Message in a Bottle is a free companion site for the Buried Treasures mod for How to Fish. You write a short message, and it turns up in someone else's game inside a bottle. It is a fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by the developers of How to Fish. By signing in and sending a bottle you agree to these terms.
Your message is public
Bottles you cast can be read by other players, and may show your display name unless you choose otherwise. Don't write anything you wouldn't want strangers to see, and don't put personal information — yours or anyone else's — in a bottle.
The rules
Keep it the sort of thing you'd be happy for a stranger to fish out of the sea. Don't send:
- Profanity, slurs or crude language. Keep it clean — assume the person who finds your bottle is playing with family watching.
- Sexual or otherwise adult content, in any form, including innuendo dressed up to slip past a filter.
- Harassment, threats, hate or abuse aimed at anyone, or at any group — including through bottles addressed to a particular player, and content that attacks people over race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, disability, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Anything that encourages self-harm or violence.
- Personal information about anyone: real names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, account credentials, doxxing of any kind.
- Spam, advertising, referral or invite links, scams, phishing, or attempts to drive people to another site or server.
- Impersonation of another player, the mod author, or the game's developers.
- Illegal content, or anything that infringes someone else's copyright.
- Deliberate abuse of the service: automating submissions, evading limits with extra accounts, or trying to break the site or the mod.
Limits
Message length and how many bottles you can send are limited, and the limits may change. Don't try to get around them.
Moderation
Messages may be reviewed or refused, before or after delivery, and may be removed from the game at any time. Accounts that break these rules can be blocked from sending bottles without warning. There is no appeal process — it's a bottle in a fishing game.
Your content
You keep whatever rights you have in what you write. By sending a bottle you give permission for that message, and your display name where you've chosen to show it, to be shown to other players in the mod and kept in circulation there. Only send messages that are yours to send.
No warranty
The service is provided as-is and free of charge. Bottles may be delayed, lost, or never found; the site may go down or be shut off entirely. Nothing here is guaranteed, and the mod author is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or anything you read in a bottle.
Changes
These terms may change; the date at the top of this page will change with them. Continuing to send bottles means you accept the current version.
